Tanzanian poet, actor, singer and comedian Mrisho Mpoto, will participate in the Third Slam Poetry World Cup from June 16 to 21 at Bobigny in France. In the competition he will present six different poems, all in his native Swahili language, in less than three minutes each. He may also be required to compete in ‘one on one’ poetic battles. Mpoto developed an idea to start Dar es Salaam Slam Poetry Competition through his experience while competing at the Indian Ocean Slam Poetry in Reunion. The 3rd Slam competition will have 16 poets from 16 different countries with Zimbabwe, Swaziland and two other countries as the only representatives of Africa. When he comes back from France, the poet will be working to launch the Tanzania Poetry Slam & East African Poetry Slam contests that will feature Poets from East Africa.
