Steven Kanumba, Yvonne Cherry & Vincent Kigosi launch ZIFF 2010

Tanzanian Movie stars, Steven Kanumba, Yvonne Cherry Yakub and Vincent Kigosi are the guests of honour at the 13th edition of Zanzibar International Film Festival starting today.The movie "Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love" directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi will be the opening night film at the ZIFF 2010 event. Some of the films to make their first African premiere are Tinga Tinga Tales, Nipe Jibu (first ever Swahili musical), My Policy, Motherland, Ana’s Playground, Lamu’s Maulid, Inside Life, Where is my Dog? and Pumzi (East Africa’s first ever science fiction film). Film lovers will also see a sneak preview of "Twiga Stars: Tanzania's Soccer Sisters", a documentary film by Nisha Ligon. The film follows a year in the life of the Twiga Stars, the Tanzanian women’s national football team: team selection, intensive training camps, and finally off to competition abroad... plus all of the obstacles along the way! An energetic and intimate portrait of talented and passionate young women trying to make it as footballers in one of the world’s poorest countries. Bongo Flava stars, Dully Sykes, Rogers Lucas and A.Y will hold LIVE music performances as part of the entertainment during the festival. The 13th ZIFF event runs from 10th - 18th July.
